High School CYO
We’re 98% there! We’ve passed all the inspections for the Spirit House. All that’s left is the paperwork for our certificate of occupancy. With lots of prayers, we should be back in the house by next weekend (Sept. 7th). You’ll hear me all the way to your house when I get that piece of paper in my hands. So, I’m going to take the risk and pretend that everything will be OK. I’m going to write this and mail it, hoping I don’t have to do another letter next week.
Before we get to the schedule for September, I have a few incidental items to bring up. 1) I have bought a CD with every picture of our whitewater trip in June. You are welcome to copy or print any shots. Just check it out with me and be sure to return it quickly so the next person can use it. Or, you can give me your order and I’ll try to get Mrs. Grimes to print them from her printer. 2) Please bring pictures from the summer trip for our photo album. 3) Remind your parents to renew their Child Protection class by going online before the end of October to www.mobilearchdiocese.org/childprotection.
Sept. schedule:
Weds., Sept. 3rd - For those who can make it, we will be moving Fr. Jim and Msgr. Murphy into the new rectory, starting at 4:00 p.m. We’ll be back and forth between the two houses until we’re through, so find us when you can.
Sunday, Sept. 7th- The Battle of the Sexes Party @ 2:00 (weather permitting). Meet at the pavilion. This is a BLAST! Girls VS. Guys! (Ladies, we have some catching up to do!) Wear something you can get wet and messy in. Bring a towel, as well as a friend (if you want). Rel. Ed. will meet at 4:30, at the pavilion, due to the length of the party.
Weds., Sept. 10th (and every Weds. the rest of the month) From here on out, we’ll have the house open from 7:00 (after Mass) to 8:30. We MUST remember to keep the noise down while outside and we MUST be off the property by 8:45. This is the perfect time to get tutoring in Math and possibly Spanish. You can meet others in your class to work on homework together. This is also the opportunity for committee meetings or to work on your Haunted House room.
Sunday, Sept. 14th- Rel. Ed. Class at 4:15 in the Spirit House. Tentatively, we will meet in Meeting Rm. 2 immediately after Mass to hear from those of us who went to El Salvador. Our goal is to help the youth program there with their new youth center. We’ll also train lectors and ushers for the Masses that we are in charge of. Here’s your first opportunity to spread your wings and be a bigger part of the parish.
Saturday, Sept. 20th- Coastal Cleanup at Dauphin Island, starting at 8:30 a.m. I will be with the Angels on a Mission, but I’d like to see you get a group up and come down with us. You are responsible for working on this on your own (not a CYO event as such). They have everything there, except I’d bring some gloves, sunscreen, and drinks (just in case). They might even offer lunch. Angels is staying only until around 10:30.
Sunday, Sept. 21st - Rel. Ed. Class at 4:15 in the Spirit House. This will be our first Mass of the year for ushers and lectors. Sign up with me by the 14th if you can help. After Mass, we plan a cookout at the Spirit House. Our next door neighbors will be invited, so be on your best behavior.
Sunday, Sept. 28th- Rel. Ed. Class at 4:15 in the Spirit House. All parents and teens involved with the Haunted House need to meet at the Murphy Center at 6:30, so we can check on the progress of the rooms. Remember to check our website for all deadlines. They will also be posted on the Spirit House bulletin board. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!! Deadlines regarding the Haunted House can be found here.
Again, welcome to all Freshmen and new members! We’re looking forward to a wonderful year. Please make sure you fill out the form on the website so I will have something to help me in an emergency. Mrs. Upton
