NOTES:
- All adults (people over 18) who have contact with our students must be trained in the Child and Adolescent Protection Program through the Archdiocese of Mobile. This is VERY IMPORTANT. An adult who is not trained may not volunteer with the school children, and may be asked to leave. This is for the protection of our children. Please make every effort to receive initial training if you have not yet. The classes are offered on the fourth Wednesday of each month at St. Dominic. Those who have received initial training must update their certification annually between August 1 and October 31. This can be done by logging online to www.mobilearchdiocese.org There, all information can be found under the “Office of Child Protection”. If you do not want to do it online, you may also update by attending a regular class. Once you have updated your training, your name will be registered and renewed in the database. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR TRAINING IS UPDATED. IF YOU ATTEND THE HALLOWEEN PARTIES IN OCTOBER, MAKE SURE YOUR UPDATE HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE THEN.
- Do you have SDS items that you’d like to ‘get rid of’, but do not know where to go? If you have old uniforms or books that you would like to sell, we’ll advertise it for you! Please contact Michelle Grimes at 661-5130 or mgrimes@stdominicmobile.org. She will post it for you under the classifieds link in the News and Events section of the school web page.
- Special milk- Although St. Dominic does not have a hot lunch program, we do participate in the special milk program through the federal government Child Nutrition Programs. If you would like to apply for free or reduced milk, please pick up a form in the school office.
- Please consider participating in the SCRIP program this year. Many funds can be raised at no additional cost to you! If you use this program regularly enough, you may also earn tuition credits. Several of our families are already vested this year! To learn more about SCRIP, look for flyers in the Wednesday folders, or call any of our PTO officers. Orders are due in on Tuesday of each week. The phone number for the SCRIP office is: 661-4350. An order form is available online through our website.
- Our school is still collecting used ink cartridges, old cell phones, Bruno’s receipts, and Box Tops for Education. Please send these in. Funds raised from these programs help especially with our technology and Physical Education departments.
- IMPORTANT- Several students at SDS have allergies. Peanut allergies especially, seem to increase each year. When sending in items for the entire class (for your child’s birthday or another celebration), please make sure to send in items that have not been made with any peanut products. Many ready made baked goods are made with them. Please check with your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
- Reminder- Students in grades 3-8 participate in the Accelerated Reader “STAR” program. Parents may log onto www.arbookfind.com to check for books that have tests to go with them and to check on their child’s points. If you have any questions, please contact the Reading teacher, or Mrs. Franklin in the library.
- Upcoming- On September 8th, there will be the first ever St. Dominic Soccer coaches vs. Corpus Christi Soccer coaches game at 6:00pm at the Corpus Christi big field. Come show your support by wearing your team jersey or gold PE shirts. “On the field” activities will take place during breaks and half time. For additional information, please contact Wayne Etheridge at jwayneeth@yahoo.com.
- UNIFORM reminder- The uniform socks is a regular white crew sock. However, if students prefer to wear ankle crew socks, they must wear the sock with the “SDS” logo. These are sold through the school office.
- Mark Your Calendar- On Friday, September 24, all St. Dominic students will be admitted free of charge to the McGill-Toolen vs. Davidson varsity football game at Lipscomb field. (Tickets will be distributed in the Wednesday for the week of the game) This game will be the UTV44/Comcast High School football game of the week.
- After School Care Reminder: Pick up time is 5:30 p.m. Please be on time, otherwise an additional fee of $5.00 per 5 minutes will be charged.
- CARPOOL NOTICE- Carpool rules are for the safety of our students. When the rules are not followed, students may receive consequences. DO NOT DROP STUDENTS OFF IN THE MORNINGS EXCEPT IN THE BACK OF THE SCHOOL. If you choose not to go through the carpool line, you must park in the large church parking lot and walk your child(ren) up to the school.
- You’re invited!- RegularSchool Advisory Board meetings are always open to the public. Anyone may attend and observe the goings-on any month. However, for the September meeting on the 16th, we are especially inviting any adult who wishes to attend and learn more about what happens at board meetings to please come to the Murphy Center at 6:00pm. We will have our regular meeting, followed by light refreshments. There will be a special box there to receive written questions and suggestions. I do hope many of you plan to attend. A flyer will go home about it after Labor Day.
