Golden Eagles Extravaganza Quilt Celebrating 50 Years

The students and the art department of St. Dominic Catholic School created the quilt in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of St. Dominic Parish.  It will be auctioned at the Golden Eagles Extravaganza on October 11, 2008.  The history of St. Dominic Parish is told in the form of a cross in the center of the quilt.  St. Dominic 8th grade students created these squares.

The four quads around the quilt contain school uniform fabrics over the years and squares from every homeroom with students’ signatures.  Moms Day Out, the parish staff and the school faculty and staff each have a square.  It was very important that everyone at St. Dominic be a part of this celebration of our parish.

“Thank you Holy Spirit for your constant guidance in making this quilt a reality.”  -Debora Castelin

ART ASSIGNMENT REQUIRED OF ALL 5-8 GRADE STUDENTS

Promote Vocations to the PRIESTHOOD

God needs you to be his hands, his voice and his messenger to promote Vocations to the Priesthood.  All students in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades are required to create a poster for the SDS Vocations Awareness Day/Serra Club Vocations Poster Contest.  Students will receive credit in both art and religion for their efforts.

THE REQUIRED ASSIGNMENT:
Design a poster promoting Vocations to the Priesthood that clearly illustrates the theme: “God is Calling.  Are you listening?”

  • Must be on poster board 22 inches x 28 inches with an envelope attached to the back bottom left hand corner with the following information enclosed on an index card: student name, grade and St. Dominic School.
  • Medium:  Student choice: paint, markers, crayons, cut paper, paper collage, etc.  Students can attach fabric, dried clay, found objects, etc.  Be sure to secure with glue.  Remember parent supervision, safety and following product instructions when using hot glue guns, baking clay, etc.
  • Ideas:
    1. Look to scripture for inspiration.
    2. Look at outdoor advertisements and billboards for clues on how to get your audience’s attention.  Who is your audience?
    3. Get your audience involved with an interactive poster.
    4. Be very creative.  Use bold colors.
    5. Think 3D.

Remember that this is advertisement for God.  He is counting on YOU to answer His call and spread the good news about Vocations!

POSTERS DUE MONDAY, OCTOBER 20th to your homeroom teacher.

Vocations Awareness Day-October 21st

In conjunction with the annual Serra Club Vocations Poster Contest, St. Dominic Art Department is hosting a Vocations Awareness Day on Tuesday, October 21, 2008.  On this day all posters will be exhibited in the Murphy Center and all homerooms invited to tour the exhibition and enjoy the interactive displays.  The exhibit will be available for tours from 8:45 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
