Musical Opportunities at St Dominic . . .
You can participate in Music at St. Dominic by joining one of our fine
ensembles, by singing with enthusiasm at Mass, and by attending special
services. Our offerings include the St Dominic Choir, the Contemporary
Ensemble, the Children's Choir, Cantors, and instrumentalists. It is our
desire that the Music at St. Dominic enriches your worship experience.
Consider joining this vital ministry of the church. Your participation
is not only rewarding but crucial for success. All groups welcome new
members.
Ensembles
St Dominic Choir
The St Dominic Choir sings weekly at the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Additionally,
the Choir sings for the liturgically rich celebrations of Christmas and
Easter along with the other great feasts of the church year. New members
are welcomed and encouraged. You do not need to sing like Pavarotti, but
possess a love of singing and a willingness to learn and blend with the
ensemble.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Adam's Center Music
Room.
St Dominic Contemporary Ensemble
The Contemporary Ensemble sings weekly at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass and
other special occasions as needed. The Contemporary Ensemble supports
the CYO liturgy and a more casual style of music. Its basis consists of
piano, guitars, vocal, and instruments. New instrumentalists are welcome
and need to possess the skill and playing ability to enhance the
ensemble.
Rehearsals: Sundays, 4:00 p.m. in the church, prior to the 5:30 p.m.
Mass.
St Dominic Cantors
The Cantors are critical to the music liturgy at St Dominic. They lead
the congregation in singing at all Masses and special services as well
as provide support for the Choir and the Contemporary Ensemble. Cantors
are auditioned and required to read music. They must have a clear voice
with good pitch, and possess the skills to create a good rapport with
the congregation.
Rehearsals: In the Chapel, 30 minutes prior to Mass.
St Dominic Children's Choir
The Children's Choir at St Dominic is in session during the school year
and open to grades 3-8. They have a flexible schedule but normally sing
once a month at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday. The Children's Choir not
only provides a wonderful enhancement to the liturgy but also teaches
reading and vocal techniques to those who want to learn about music.
Rehearsal and singing schedules are available from the director of the
group at the beginning of each new school year.
