Religious Education
Adult Education - All adult members of the parish are invited to
attend faith enrichment programs held on Sunday mornings beginning in September
and concluding in May. This is a great opportunity to grow in faith and
knowledge of what it means to be a Catholic Christian.
Children's Religious Education - The program consists of instruction classes for all students in grades Kindergarten through High School attending public and private schools. Children's Religious Ed meets during the school year after the 9:00 am Mass in the Saint Dominic School classrooms. There is a program for Pre-School aged children which meets during
the 9:00 am Mass.
RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation is the process by which an adult joins the Catholic faith. The process is designed for persons who have never been baptized as Christian, who have been baptized in another Christian faith and are now interested in the Catholic tradition or persons who were baptized in the Catholic tradition but were not raised as Catholics.
Scripture Study Group - The Scripture Study group emphasizes prayer,
reading, study and spreading the Gospel. The group reads the Bible utilizing the
Collegeville Study Guide. All are welcome.

Legion of Mary - The Legion of Mary is an association of men and women
who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary,
formed into a Legion performing service for the Church. There are two types of
membership: active and auxiliary. The duty of the auxiliary member is the daily
recitation of the Rosary and recitation of the prayers contained in the Legion
prayer leaflet. The active Legion member attends a weekly meeting and does two
hours of apostolic work each week.
St. Vincent de Paul Society - The St. Vincent de Paul Society
establishes personal contact with those in need and brings the most efficient
aid possible. Members visit nursing homes, as well as parish and community
families as needed. Once a year the Society hosts a party for citizens in the
community who are handicapped in any way. They are also support the district
organization.
Prayer Network - The Prayer Network is a is a group of parishioners
who accept prayer requests from parish members who need special and/or
emergency prayer for themselves or others. Members agree to be called to pray
for a requested need and to pass on the request to a member beneath you on the
telephone network list. Prayer network members will also be asked to pray daily
for all the needs of the parish.
Food for the Bereaved - Food for the Bereaved enables people to serve
in a simple but meaningful way while expressing sympathy and caring to a
bereaved family of the parish. The program consists of several teams, each with
a team captain who receives information regarding needs in the parish. The
members then prepare a dish or provide soft drinks and arrange to have them
delivered to the family. The group also prepares frozen meals on occasion to
have on hand in times of need. This group is coordinated through the Women’s
Club.
Bereavement Committee - The Bereavement Committee sends sympathy cards
to our bereaved and also contacts them by phone or home visits. The Committee
also hosts the All Souls Day Mass and reception.
Welcoming Committee - The Welcoming committee contacts new
parishioners by phone or home visit, providing information concerning church
activities, and organizations. They assist in introducing families or
individuals to the parish community.
Evangelization Committee - The Evangelization Committee serves the
Church as faith enrichment for all parish members, as an outreach to
non-practicing and marginal Christians, and an outreach to non-Catholics. The
committee develops, plans, and conducts various projects ranging from in-church
missions, Lenten and Advent programs, to home visits. New members and new ideas
are encouraged.
Network of Care - The Network of Care provides transportation to
church, doctor's offices or the grocery store to those in the parish that are
sick and/or elderly. They also, on occasion, prepare meals, make minor home
repairs, do yard work, sit with the sick or elderly, and visit or phone the
grieving. Network of Care professional members, such as nurses, lawyers,
psychologists, and financial planners, provide assistance as needed.
Youth Ministries
CYO - The CYO, open to all high school students of the parish, offers
an opportunity for teens to gather in a Christian atmosphere of friendship and
fun through social and spiritual activities. Some of these include movie and gym
nights, canoeing, trips, retreats, conferences and sports. They are actively
involved with several volunteer organizations in helping our community. These
projects provide the chance for young people to live and grow in their faith
together. The goal of the program is to encourage teens to continue to be an
active member of the parish throughout their lives. The group meets most Sundays
after the 5:30 pm Mass.
Jr. CYO - This organization is for all 7th and 8th graders of the
parish. The group has at least one social or spiritual activity monthly. Some
activities include participating in special community events, dances, paintball,
game and movie night, as well as retreats and prayer services. Participating in
Jr. CYO gives students a taste of the high school program
Boy Scouts - Boy Scouts is one of the traditional membership divisions
of BSA, and is available to boys in the parish who have earned the Arrow of
Light Award and are at least 10 years old or have completed the fifth grade and
are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves
the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.
Cub Scouts - Cub Scouting is a year-round family program designed for
boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of
age). Cub Scouting teaches boys to do their best, and to be helpful to others.
Cub Scouts involve boys in a Cub Scout Den where they can earn status and
recognition. Boys also gain a sense of personal achievement from the new skills
they learn.
Girl Scouts/Brownies - This is an informal, educational program
centered on the interests and abilities of girls from ages 5 – 18. Girl Scouts
focus on friendships, care for others, service and care of our environment.
Booster Club - The Booster Club is a parish organization created to
oversee participation of parish, school-aged children in the Archdiocesan
Catholic Youth Organization's sports - football, basketball, volleyball and
soccer and golf. The Booster Club meets monthly and interested parents are
welcome and encouraged to participate.
Vacation Bible School - Vacation Bible School provides children in
grades PK - Grade 5 a weeklong opportunity to learn more about the Bible through
drama, arts/crafts, games and videos. Young people in Grades 6 - 12, as well as
adults, are encouraged to volunteer in positions such as teachers, teacher
aides, group leaders or musicians.

Parish Administration and Social Functions
Parish Council - The purpose of the Parish Council is to act as a
vehicle of communication by which the people of the parish may obtain an
understanding of the operations of the parish and have a definite voice in the
policies, which the parish may undertake, both spiritual and temporal. The
Council consists of nine elected representatives serving a term of three years
(three representatives elected each year), appointed representatives from the
various parish committees/groups, and the pastor acting as president. Any member
of the parish may attend Council meetings.
Parish Office Volunteer - The parish office often needs individuals to
assist with various mailings, to help prepare the weekly bulletins for
distribution, to clean candle cups after Easter, and to handle other
miscellaneous items. Volunteers are contacted on an "as needed" basis.
Dominican Fryers - The Dominican Fryers are a group of men and women
who gather together during Lent to run the Fish Fry’s. We prepare and serve the
food, clean the hall and kitchen. This is a great opportunity to meet and work
with your fellow parishioners. We always need volunteers.
Other Parish Organizations
Women’s Club - The Women’s Club assists the parish in whatever way
necessary including cleaning the church, decorating the altar, maintaining the
flowers, supplying the sacristy with laundered linens, new linens, altar
vestments, and holy vessels. The Club plans enrichment programs in the subject
of religion and other special interests for the parish. A sub-committee assists
the priests, deacons and family members of those with weddings held at the
parish. All women of the parish are automatically members of the Women’s Club.
Bay Area Singles - This group coordinates various activities for
single Catholic persons. Activities include things such as bowling, dinner and
weekend "get-aways.”
Respect Life -This committee only has a few events during the year
such as the school essay contest, Life Chain, banquet and carnation sale on
Mother’s Day. We also assist to increase awareness and education for our parish
through bulletin inserts and possible speakers on issues such as birth control,
euthanasia and abortion. Most of the work of our members is through individual
prayer. We do have a connection with Alabama Citizens for Life to keep involved
with current pro-life legislation.
Confraternity of Christian Mothers - Our focus is on ministry of family life through directed studies of the Catholic faith and regular family activities. We invite all women (not just moms and brides) to attend our weekly gatherings on Mondays in the Spirit house. We have the same meeting at 9:00 am and again at 7:00 pm so you can choose the time that works for you. For our moms who have no child care we invite you to bring your little ones with you (just bring a few toys). Each week we focus on the current season in the liturgical year and learn why we value these seasons and how we can celebrate them in our homes.
Vocations Committee - The Vocation committee draws the attention of
the parish, together with the contribution of the family, towards the promotion
of vocations to the priesthood, religious life and the permanent deaconate.
Prayer Group - The Prayer Group is an informal group who comes
together for praise and worship along with faith sharing and intercessory prayer
for St. Dominic, the whole Body of Christ, national, global, and personal
concerns.
