THE PRESIDENT’S PAGE

The purpose of the St. Dominic Booster Club is to organize and promote participation by eligible youth in the CYO’s athletic competitions, programs and events. The officers consist of a President, an Executive Vice-President, Vice President of Sports, a Treasurer and a Secretary. There is also a Board of Directors which consist of the officers plus the Pastor and the immediate past President. The board members serve for two year terms, and they are staggered to try and keep some continuity of leadership. It has been my pleasure to serve as the President of the Booster Club for the past two years. However, it is time to transfer leadership to others.
The new officers are:
President: Charles Drury
Executive Vice President: Bart Briggs
Vice-President of Sports: Alton Stokes
Treasurer: John Noletto
Secretary: Jess McHugh
Both Charles and Alton have served on the Booster Club in other capacities, (Charles as the immediate past V.P. of Sports and Alton as the basketball coordinator) but Bart and John are new to the position of either a coordinator or an officer. Jess has served, but it was many years ago. (Despite his youthful appearance, Jess is much, much older than he looks.) I welcome each of them to their positions, and if you see them, say hello and thanks.
Although this is my last report, I stay on the Board of Directors to help Charles in the transitory process. The reasons why I am proud of this organization are too numerous to relay in this one report, but allow me to restate something that I said in my last report. It bears repeating.
If you look at the McGill Dirty Dozen volleyball team, I anticipate that there will be a disproportionate number of St. Dominic parishioners on that team. If you look at McGill’s Soccer program, one of the leaders is our own Chloe Estephan, who is routinely identified in the sport section of the local paper. The McGill freshmen’s boys basketball team was coached by St. Dominic’s own, Terry Rowe. Every one of the St. Dominic boys who tried out for that freshmen team made the team. No other school can make that same claim. That’s impressive. Finally, I anticipate that there will be a St. Dominic parishioner who will be leading both the McGill football team and the McGill baseball team. As it is, two of the Senior starting pitchers for the McGill Varsity baseball team are St. Dominic parishioners–Pat Shreve and David Dupuy. We have produced an impressive number of athletes, and you should be proud.

Patrick Shreve pitched McGill to a victory against Opelika in the first game of the 3rd round of the State Playoffs. It was Opelika’s second loss of the season, and they were ranked 9th in the country. I expect that some of these folks will continue to play at the next level, and regardless, all of them will be leaders of whom we can be proud.
I am also proud of the number of volunteers who make this organization work. As the President, I have the privilege of working with some fantastic folks who made us look good. I point to my past officers: Greg Williams, the immediate past Executive Vice-President; Charles Drury, the immediate past Vice-President of Sports; David Medeiros, the immediate past Secretary, and Richard Schneider, the immediate past Treasurer. Each of them provided valuable insight, counsel and support. I could always count on them to help me through some trying and difficult times. We are all purely volunteers, and each spent countless hours helping make my two years more enjoyable. Thank you.
I also recognize the coordinators who work so hard and receive so little recognition- Paula Brown (Volleyball), Trae Jones (Soccer), Zarlin Messer (Football), Alton Stokes (Basketball), Marie Martin (Uniforms), Doug Ankersen (Field Day), and Randy Gould (Fund Raiser). Thank you.
Finally, I recognize the coaches, and assistant coaches who help work with our children. Thank you. On behalf of our parish, we appreciate you.
As I said, this is my last report. Charles and his board will need your support and understanding. I am confident that The Booster Club remains in good hands. I know that each of them has St. Dominic’s best interest at heart
